Yes, it is still fussy to sew (although not as impossible as you may fear), but there are so many projects, both non-sewing and sewing, to try out with silk that you may be inspired to pick up that needle and thread after all, or you may find plenty to occupy you without them. Silk is a premium fibre and a luxury fabric for garments and soft furnishings. The fact that we can buy metres of it and make our own beautiful, luxe products can be a huge money-saver. Unfortunately for us, silk can be a real pain to sew! My last silk sewing article was suitable for fabrics prone to unraveling, like raw silk.

Silk is a gorgeous fabric but sometimes you stop considering it so, when you start sewing with it.The uneven cut edges, thread snags, the needle plate eating the fabric, wavy edges, pins leaving holes, uneven unattractive hems. This beautiful fabric can soon become your most dreaded fabric for sewing.

I love the casual variety of silks these days, like silk knit, silk jersey, and silk spun that can be made into leggings, shorts, underwear, dresses, t-shirts…It just feels so good to wear. I read that silk has properties in it that protect the skin from electromagnetic energy.
