  • Although many garments recommend dry cleaning, you can wash, dry and press silk at home using gentle methods. Hand wash silk in lukewarm water. Add a few drops of mild detergent to a bucket or sink of water. Rub it very gently to release stains. Allow the silk to soak for three to five minutes.

The Best Way to Dry Silk Never wring your silk items-and never toss them in the dryer, warns Whitehurst. To remove excess water, place the wet garment on a white cotton towel. Fold the towel over and gently blot.

Even though most silk clothing says, “dry clean only,” with the correct methods, safely hand wash silk at home. First, soak the silk clothes in lukewarm or cold water. Add a few drops of gentle homemade laundry detergents and mix well with water. Let is soak for three minutes. Gently turn around the garment in a circle.

Most silk garments can be hand washed, even if the tag advises dry cleaning only. To begin washing the garment, fill a large basin or bowl with enough lukewarm or cold water to submerge the garment inside. If you really care about the garment, you should probably take it to a dry cleaner's rather than handwashing it.

To clean silk, start by spot cleaning any stains using 2 tablespoons of vinegar or lemon juice and 2 cups of lukewarm water. Just dip the stained area into the solution or pour the solution over the stain. For tougher stains, try a 1:1 solution of lukewarm water with either ammonia or alcohol, instead.

When silk has been stained, the best thing to do is to wash it with cold water and take it to the dry cleaners immediately. You can also buy some dry clean solution or stain remover that is safe for silk and apply a little bit (follow the directions on the bottle) on the stain.

Best way to is to roll the cloth in a towel to remove the water and then lightly stretch back to place. Hang to dry out in the open where there is mild sunlight. Take the fabric to iron before the fabric is fully dry. If there are heavy design elements in the silk garment, dry on a flat surface.

Never tumble dry silk – the heat can also cause damage or shrinking. Use a mild, non-biological detergent like Persil Silk & Wool. A detergent specially designed for the purpose is best for washing silk. Always check if the item is colour-fast before washing. Dab an inconspicuous area of the silk with a white, wet cloth to see if any colour runs from the item.

The best way to dry silk is to put them on a padded hanger after using a towel to absorb excess moisture. After that it is just a matter of time before your silk clothing gets dry. One way that you are allowed to use your dryer when needing to get your silks dryer faster, is if they have been pre-washed and pre-dried before garment construction.

Cold water is the best way to wash any silk item. It doe snot damage the fabric. If you are washing at home forget about the dryer. That machine is also considered providing direct heat.
